How do I know if my building needs a Fire Safety Plan?
Whether your building requires a Fire Safety Plan depends on factors such as occupancy, building use, occupant load, number of storeys and other conditions identified in Section 2.8 of the Ontario Fire Code.
Fire Safety Plans are commonly required for many residential, commercial, assembly, industrial and other regulated buildings. If you are unsure, send us your building address and a short description of the property. We can review the basic information and help you determine the appropriate next step.
What is included in a professional Fire Safety Plan?
A Fire Safety Plan is prepared specifically for the building and may include emergency procedures, supervisory staff responsibilities, fire drill procedures, fire hazards, alternative measures and information about fire alarm, sprinkler, standpipe and other fire protection systems.
The plan should also contain clear building and floor plan information where required. At StellarFPC, we focus on producing documentation that is practical for building staff to use and clear for the reviewing authority to understand.
What do you need from me to start my Fire Safety Plan?
The easiest way to start is to send us the building address, the current use of the property and any available drawings or existing Fire Safety Plan.
We may also request information about the fire alarm system, sprinkler system, standpipe, emergency power, supervisory staff and other building features. If the available information is incomplete, we can advise whether a site visit is recommended.
The goal is to make the process simple. Send us what you have and we will tell you what else is needed.
How quickly can StellarFPC prepare my Fire Safety Plan?
For many standard projects, our target preparation time is approximately 1-2 weeks after receiving the information required to complete the work.
If you have an urgent deadline, rush service may be available for qualifying projects and we may be able to prepare the plan within 2-3 business days. Timing depends on the size and complexity of the building, document availability and our current schedule.
Will StellarFPC support my Fire Safety Plan until the Fire Department review is completed?
Yes. We stand behind the Fire Safety Plans we prepare and support our clients throughout the municipal review process.
If the reviewing fire department requests reasonable revisions or clarifications related to the original agreed Fire Safety Plan scope, we will review the comments and make the required updates as part of our project support.
The final approval decision is issued by the local Chief Fire Official or authority having jurisdiction, but our job is to prepare the plan professionally and help move the submission through the review process.
Can you update my existing Fire Safety Plan?
Yes. In many cases, an existing Fire Safety Plan can be reviewed and updated instead of starting completely from the beginning.
Updates may be required when there are renovations, occupancy changes, fire protection system changes, changes to supervisory staff or other changes in how the building operates. The Ontario Fire Code requires applicable Fire Safety Plans to be reviewed as often as necessary and at intervals of no more than 12 months.
We can review the existing plan, identify the information that needs to be updated and prepare the revised documentation.
Do you provide Fire Safety Plan training for our staff?
Yes. Fire Safety Plan training is an important part of implementing the plan because supervisory staff need to understand their responsibilities, emergency procedures and fire drill requirements.

How much does a Fire Safety Plan cost, and can you beat another quote?
The cost depends on the size and type of building, the complexity of the fire protection systems, the quality of the available drawings and the scope of work required.
